Founded in 1930 as the State Uzbek Medical Institute and restructured as a university in 2022, Samarkand State Medical University (SSMU) is the oldest and one of the most prestigious medical institutions in Central Asia. Located in the historic city of Samarkand, Uzbekistan, SSMU has played a pivotal role in shaping regional and global medical education and research for over 90 years. Samarkand State Medical University stands as a model of educational reform, medical excellence, and international cooperation. SSMU offers a diverse range of programs across 6 faculties and 54 departments, including Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, Pharmacy, Medical Pedagogy, Preventive Medicine, Traditional Medicine, and Medical Biology. It supports 8 undergraduate areas of study and follows a credit-module education system aligned with the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS), enabling academic compatibility and mobility across Europe and beyond.
On April 4–5, Samarkand State Medical University hosted the IV International Scientific and Practical Conference on "Innovative Technologies in Healthcare: New Opportunities for Internal Medicine," dedicated to the memory of renowned Uzbek scientist and Honored Healthcare Worker Nurmamat Abdullayev. The event brought together healthcare specialists, scientists, medical institution representatives, and international experts to discuss the role of innovative technologies in disease diagnosis and treatment. Leading researchers from various countries participated. The Director of ICD also attended and shared his views on the importance of international collaboration in advancing medical science and education.
To comprehensively support talented students and enhance their educational experience, the rector of Samarkand State Medical University, Professor Zhasur Rizaev, regularly holds meetings with students and student’s advisor. In the meeting, Director of ICD also participated and discussed academic progress, addresses students’ concerns. On April 22, he conducted an open dialogue with academically outstanding and well-disciplined students. During this meeting, the rector attentively listened to their concerns, suggestions, and aspirations, aiming to improve the quality of education and provide better opportunities and conditions for their academic growth.
